Hello, hello again! I don’t know when would you be reading this post but I just recently visited the Austrian city of Vienna and I loved it! I’ve always heard that Vienna was a beautiful city, but words make no justice.. it is stunning!

From the high luxurious Mercedes taxis in the streets to its palaces filled with art, everything is and feels like a tale. A fancy tale! Especially after living in South East Asia, any European country seems expensive; expensive and cold! A piece of advice tho, if you wanna move around the city, download the app “Bolt”, it is like Uber but with a different name . It works marvellous and prices are really competitive (way better than normal taxis).
Best places in Vienna
During our 3 days trip in the city, we were able to visit the following attractions, that although they are not all, they are the best places in Vienna:
Belvedere Palace: to our surprise, it wasn’t just a palace but a whole complex with 3 buildings: upper Belvedere, lower Belvedere and Belvedere 21. The latest one holds temporary and more modern artworks. Meanwhile, the lower Belvedere combines gorgeous interiors and a baroque privy garden with some medieval collections. However, it is the upper Belvedere the one that claims all the glory with its exhibitions with works from Schiele and Gustav Klimpt. Without having seen the Lower Belvedere nor the 21, I would still recommend you to visit the Upper wing. For only 16 euros you will spend a great time admiring different pieces and one of the most famous paintings ever, “The Kiss”.
Art History Museum and Hofburg Palace: although we didn’t really visit them (we didn’t go inside), the walk from the museum to the palace was beautiful. Besides, during the winter holidays, the city set a Christmas market with loads of delicious foods and cute handmade souvenirs.
Karlskirche aka St Charles Church: arguably one of the most pleasant surprises we got on our trip. Without planning to come in, Belle said “let’s go, we are already here”, and it was a great idea. The Church had 2 giant Christmas balls hanging inside that reflected all the delicate fresco paintings. Besides, after paying the 8 euro entrance, we were granted access to the lift which brought us to the top of the church.
Musikverein: honestly, unless you wanna see an opera or go inside the building, you can skip it. From the outside it looks exactly the same to other buildings in the same street, we saw it because it was on our way to Karlskirche.
Albertina museum: possibly one of the best spots to take photos in Vienna. We did not enter but spent a fair amount of time taking videos and pictures.
St Stephan’s Cathedral: Belle’s favourite. Pretty nice and well-maintained cathedral. Guess it didn’t impress me much since I have seen many of them? Either way, do pay it a visit since the entrance is free. Once inside you can choose to pay to visit the tower with the bell or to enter into the catacombs. We opted for the second option, which, to be honest, I regret a bit because the tour was rather short and we didn’t see much. For 6’5eur I expected to see more? Belle liked it a lot so I guess it also depends on what you like and whether you have seen other cathedrals or churches before.
Naschmarkt: last but not least, the market that took us 3 days to find it open, Naschmarkt. I think that, although I wasn’t disappointed, I expected more local food. To my surprise, most of the food was from the Middle East and only few stalls had Austrian food. It is a good place to spend like an hour, to buy some cheap winter hat that you may need or to get some souvenirs to bring back home.
And this is it! This is a summary of what we did on our 3 days visit to the incredible city of Vienna in Austria!
