What to do in Bangkok?

If you are like I was, that is, with a mini holidays ahead and eager to travel to the Thai capital, this post will be of great help. Today I bring you some tips to keep in mind if you are thinking about visiting Bangkok. Are you ready? Well here we go.

What to eat in BANGKOK?

I must admit that before traveling to Bangkok knew little, or rather, very little about the food they could find there. However, after four days in Thailand this is what I liked:

• Mango Sticky rice: if you like desserts, the rice with mango you’ll love. To find an equivalent to an English dessert we could say it’s like rice pudding but very sticky. The mixture of sweet rice with mango is something that will leave you speechless. Without a doubt, my favorite dish in Bangkok.

• Padthai: the Padthai is like the Thai national dish. Traditionally it is a stray dish made with rice noodles sauteed with egg, soy, peanuts, tofu and shrimp, all marinated with sweet and sour sauce. One hundred percent recommended for a not very heavy dinner.

• Crispy Crepes: is one of the snacks you can easily find around Bangkok. As the name suggests, are crispy crepes to which you can add different toppings, but the most common is the egg yolk. If you want to grab something quick to eat, buy one of these.

What to see in Bangkok?

Bangkok is a city full of palaces and Buddhas scattered throughout the city. In the most unexpected places you can find a mini chapels with buddhas inside. However, if you want to brag about your visit to this city and your photos in front of your friends, you need to visit the Grand Palace and temples located in the same area.

The Grand Palace (Thai: พระบรม มหาราช วัง, Phra Borom Maha Ratcha Wang) is a complex of buildings that served as the official residence of the King of Thailand from the eighteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. The palace is located east of the Chao Phraya River, protected by it.

In the same place, we can also find the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The full name of the temple is Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram (วัด พระ ศรีรัตนศาสดาราม). It is the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand. The main building is the central ubosoth, which is the Emerald Buddha. Although small in size is the main religious icon of the Thai people. Legend has it that the statue was created in India, but had a long journey before arriving in Bangkok.

Later you can also visit Wat Pho, or Temple of the Reclining Buddha. This temple is especially known for having inside a big lying Buddha, with its 46 meters long and 15 meters high, is the largest reclining Buddha statue in Thailand. Furthermore, all the statue is covered with gold leaf.

Finally, across the river, we can see Wat Arun (Thai: วัด อรุณ, Temple of Dawn). Although his full name is Wat Arunratchawararam Ratchaworamahavihara (วัด อรุณ ราชวราราม ราชวรมหาวิหาร) and is known locally as Wat Chaeng (วัด แจ้ง). The most striking feature of Wat Arun is its central prang (Khmer-style tower) and a fairly pronounced stairs that lead to the two main terraces at a height of 77 meters.

To get to Wat Arun will be necessary to take a boat to cross the river. Beware the banner bearing the boat since according to the color, the price varies greatly. Try to avoid the blue, green and yellow flag since they are intended for tourist boats and the price is higher. On the other hand, tries to jump on boats that carry orange flag or simply do not carry flag. Remember that most temples require to entry with long pants, since shorts or skirts are not allowed. However, they will provide you long pants if you need them; but are ugly with greed.

Besides all its cultural offer, Bangkok is also famous for the number of party you can find on the streets. A must is Khao San Road and the surrounding area. Since this is one of the most known tourist areas in Bangkok, full of bars, tattoo shops, clothing stores and stalls massage. For less than € 5 you can enjoy a full back massage 30 minutes. Can you think of any better way to end the day?

If you do not like massage to much and you prefer go shopping, I suggest you go to MBK mall. The MBK is between the stop National Stadium and Siam Skytrain and is the best mall for the tourist, and the cheapest. Inside you can buy everything from small souvenirs to the best fakes. Shirts, shorts, hats, mobile phones … Everything has a place in this mall.

Finally, if you prefer the street markets, visit the Pratunam market, which in turn is the largest clothing market in Thailand. The name Pratunam means “water gate” and is located at the intersection of Ratchaprarop and Phetburi roads in the Ratchathewi district.

The Baiyoke Tower is located near Pratunam. The Baiyoke Tower II is the tallest building in the country, hosting in its 85 floors the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, the tallest hotel in all of Southeast Asia and the third highest worldwide. In total, there are 673 rooms and 309 feet high, 328 m taking into account the antenna.
